Research

Christian Safran is a scientific assistant at the Institute for Information Systems and Computer Media at the Graz University of Technology. He received his diploma in Telematics in 2006 and is working on a PhD thesis on collaborative tools for online learning communities. He is assistant lecturer for "Introduction to Structured Programming" and "Software Development Practical Exercises". His research interests include social software, collaborative tools, online communities of practise, and the influence of emerging media technologies on learning.

His master's thesis was on A Concept-Based Information Retrieval Approach for User-oriented Knowledge Transfer - Personalized and Contextual Search in the Context of Digital Libraries and was finished in 2005. The thesis was supervised by Christian Gütl at the Graz University of Technology and Heinz Dreher at the Curtin University of Technology in Perth (Australien). The thesis has been published as a book in 2008.
